Welcome

Hi and welcome to my second foray into blogging. If you have read my other blog "the cynical cyclist" you know a what I am all about. That blog has become a little bit of everything, I guess kind of like me. I have many hobbies, concerns and interests that are all represented in the "cynical cyclist", including the 52 weeks of Adventure with my daughter. I also have written about my bike tours and my political views on food security, and sustainability. I originally wanted to create a blog about cycling only, but the other one has morphed and I do not want to change it now. I am sure that there will be sharing between the two as things go on.

My vision for "comox valley bicycle" is to have a place where locals and visitors alike can turn to learn about different places to ride and what to find when they do go to these places. I will try to bring a local cyclists perspective on where and when to see different places. What will not be included in this blog will be mountain biking information. There is already a great resource that I will have a link to on this site. This blogs will focus on cruisers, touring cyclists and day trippers who just want to go get some exercise and see neat things. It is not intended to be a "lycra rider" site, although I welcome all riders of all ability to frequent and comment on the posts. I am very open to ideas and suggestions on rides and places to see. Riding with children is an important activity to grow the sport and to keep strong numbers to advocate for the future.

My own cycling excursions include day and half day rides, doing loops on the road from my home in Cumberland to various other locations. I may find myself at the beach, the mountains or the river. I usually have a pannier or two just in case I pass a farm stand. I also like to cruise logging roads with my mountain bike to access different waterways and find new places to pick mushrooms. I am not talking hardcore mountain biking, which I also do, but I will try to keep the routes on this site for less technically inclined riders, and that can be ridden on skinny tires.

Thanks for visiting the site and please come back to see where is goes from here. What a wonderful place we live to cycle.
